AdBlue storage and shelf life
AdBlue storage shelf life — adBlue has a finite shelf life because urea hydrolyses slowly to ammonia, faster when stored warm. Keep it sealed, out of sunlight and cool, and use a clean funnel — contamination and age are the two ways good fluid goes bad.

AdBlue storage shelf life — the detail
Why it degrades
Urea in water is not indefinitely stable. It converts slowly to ammonia and carbon dioxide, and the rate rises sharply with storage temperature. This is why shelf life is quoted against a temperature band rather than as a flat date.
Storage temperature
Cool and out of direct sunlight. Freezing is not the problem — the fluid freezes at about −11 °C and thaws back to specification unharmed. Sustained heat is the problem.
Contamination in storage
The commonest route to contaminated fluid is not the manufacturer but the container: an open or part-used drum, or a funnel that has previously seen fuel or oil. ISO 22241 covers handling for exactly this reason.
What degraded fluid does to the vehicle
Nothing dramatic. The concentration drifts, the system under-doses, NOx conversion fails a check and a fault appears — often several drive cycles after the top-up, which is why the cause is frequently missed.
Practical rules
Buy sealed containers in sizes you will actually use. Keep a dedicated AdBlue funnel and nothing else. Do not decant into an unmarked container. Check the date before topping up a vehicle that has stood.
Common questions
Can frozen AdBlue still be used?
Yes. It thaws back to specification. Vehicle tanks and lines are heated because freezing is expected, not because it is harmful.
How long does an opened container last?
Less than a sealed one, and less again if stored warm. Check the container — manufacturers state shelf life against a storage temperature band.
Can I store AdBlue in a fuel can?
No. Residual hydrocarbon in the can contaminates the fluid, and that is one of the most common causes of a dosing injector fault.
£89 is the call-out. An AdBlue tank drain and flush is quoted on the phone before a technician travels. If the SCR system needs component replacement — dosing injector, pump, tank or catalyst — that is separate, and you will be told before any work starts. If this is a job we cannot fix at the roadside, we will tell you that on the phone rather than after we arrive.

What customers say
4.8 out of 5 from 2,190 Trustpilot reviews. What reviewers mention most is that the technician stayed calm and professional with a driver who was embarrassed and stressed, and that somebody arrived when they said they would.
The most common criticism is price. People do not expect a wrong-fluid job to cost what it costs, and that is a fair complaint to publish rather than bury. The answer is the From just £89 call-out fee, a quote given on the phone before a technician travels, and being told when a job cannot be done at the roadside rather than after somebody has arrived and charged for the visit.
